£2.5 million boost for community-led regeneration

Almost 80 organisations across Scotland will benefit from new funding to support regeneration projects that strengthen local economies and communities.

Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes confirmed more than £2.5 million has been allocated through the Strengthening Communities Programme in 2025-26. Now in its 13th year, the Programme backs projects that address local challenges such as employability, housing, tourism, and the creation of food hubs.

Announcing the funding in Huntly, Ms Forbes highlighted Number 30 The Square, a former department store transformed into a community hub with government support. She said:
“Local communities are best placed to address their own needs and realise their own economic potential. That is why community-led regeneration is a key priority for the Scottish Government.”

Welcoming the announcement, Scotland’s Towns Partnership Chief Officer Kimberley Guthrie said:

“I am delighted about this announcement from the Scottish Government. At Scotland’s Towns Partnership, we see every day how community-led regeneration strengthens and revitalises towns across the country. This investment recognises that vital work supports local organisations to unlock social capital to deliver thriving communities for people and businesses alike.”

The funding will support 62 existing organisations and provide backing to 15 new ones, helping communities across Scotland deliver positive, long-lasting change.
