Delivering a National Commitment to Scotland’s Towns: Localism as a driver of inclusive economic growth

September 2 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join Scotland’s Towns Partnership for the first session in our current learning series, Delivering a National Commitment to Towns.

Scotland’s towns are adapting to significant changes in consumer behaviour, investment patterns and the way places are planned and managed. Delivering sustainable economic growth increasingly depends on collaboration across local authorities, empowering communities to shape their own places, and developing innovative models that unlock local assets and investment.

This session will explore how localism can strengthen economic resilience, showcasing practical examples of partnership working, community leadership and place based innovation. From regional investment intelligence to community asset management and creative regeneration, delegates will hear how organisations across Scotland are creating new opportunities for their towns and neighbourhoods.

Chief Officer Kimberley Guthrie will be joined by key STP partners, Visit Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland to firstly discuss what localism means to their sectors brought to life with examples from across Scotland. Kimberley will be joined by Ken Massie, Head of Destinations and Sectors at Visit Scotland and Bea Nichol, Place Development Manager at Historic Environment Scotland.

The panel will be followed by detailed presentations from speakers including:

  • David Boyle, Principal Economist, Glasgow City Region Intelligence Hub
  • Julie Lindeman, Project Development Coordinator, Stonehaven Town Partnership
  • Rob Hoon, Chief Executive, Out of the Blue, Edinburgh

The session will conclude with an interactive discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to explore how these approaches can be applied in their own places.

This event is free for STP Members. You can view a breakdown of the session and register to attend, here.
