STP Co-Hosts Key CWB Event Ahead of Parliament Debate

This week marks a major milestone for Scotland’s economic future! Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP) is proud to co-host a key event with the Economic Development Association Scotland (EDAS) on November 19th: ‘Is Your Town Ready for Community Wealth Building?’

This session is critically timed, taking place just one day before the Stage 1 Debate of the Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Bill in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday, November 20th. This Bill represents a significant opportunity to legislate for an economy that puts people, place, and the environment first, ensuring wealth is created and retained locally within our towns.

A Roadmap for Town Transformation

At STP, we know our towns are essential to a thriving national economy. This event offers town leaders an invaluable chance to connect with innovators and global pioneers to explore how CWB can truly transform local economies.

You’ll hear from international and Scottish experts on why towns are more important than ever, and get practical, actionable steps to implement CWB principles. Our Chief Officer, Kimberley Guthrie, will welcome you to a powerful line-up including:

  • Neil McInroy (EDAS Chair and global CWB thought leader) on the CWB concept and the centrality of towns.
  • Mayor Jaime Kinder (Meadville, Pennsylvania) providing a live international example of CWB success.
  • A Practitioner Panel featuring Linda Gillespie (DTAS), Alan Paul (Fife Council), and Caroline Brown (RTPI), sharing insights on community-led assets, local outcomes, and inclusive spatial planning.

This is your chance to gain the ideas and motivation to shape your town’s future.

Action and Resources

As the CWB Bill progresses, the commitment to the CWB agenda becomes clearer. We encourage you to review the CWB video and access the wealth of resources on the EDAS Centre for Excellence to prepare for this transformative era in economic development.

If your town is ready to lead the way in building a fairer, more resilient local economy, don’t miss out!
