Business Stream

Trusted retailer to over 300,000 businesses

Business Stream is one of the largest water retailers in the UK. With over 15 years’ experience of operating in a competitive water market – longer than any other retailer – we’re the chosen provider for customers ranging from small corner shops to large industrial estates. Headquartered in Edinburgh and employing around 300 people, we provide a range of services to business customers including billing, water efficiency support and water and waste water management solutions.

Since 2008 we’ve helped our customers save…

Over £367 million in discounts and efficiencies

62.7 billion litres of water – the equivalent of nearly 25,000 Olympic sized swimming pools

From the outset of the Scottish retail water market opening in 2008, allowing non-household customers to choose their supplier, we’ve been working hard to drive change in the water sector and help businesses reap the benefits created by a competitive market. These benefits include improved customer service levels, lower bills, increased innovation and greater environmental efficiencies. In advance of the English market opening in 2017, we acquired the non-household customer base of Southern Water, which doubled our customer base overnight, and in January 2019 we announced our plans to acquire the non-household customer base of Yorkshire Water Business Services and Three-Sixty, which took effect in October of that year.

In addition to servicing our growing customer base, in 2019 we launched our vision to make a positive difference to our customers, our people, the environment and our local communities. To help bring our vision to life we’ve since introduced over 30 new initiatives including launching our Charity Panel and volunteering programme; reducing our carbon footprint by half within the past year, becoming certified as carbon neutral and planting an additional 10,000 trees in Scotland; delivering a wide range of measures to enhance our colleagues’ health and wellbeing; and introducing innovative solutions to help our customers reduce their water use.

In recognition of our commitment to sustainability, we were awarded a Gold rating by global sustainability assessors, EcoVadis, in November 2023 – placing us within the top 97th percentile of all companies assessed. EcoVadis asses more than 75,000 companies in over 200 industries on their sustainability credentials. The assessment which measures companies performance against four key sustainability areas (the environment, labour and working conditions, sustainable procurement and ethics) is based on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact and ISO2600 certification.
