Paisley First BID – Driving the town’s cultural and economic revival

Paisley is experiencing a cultural and economic renaissance, where pride in its heritage is shaping a vibrant future. Known for its distinctive architecture and innovative past, the town has been revitalised through council-led investment and the work of Paisley First BID, a business-led organisation supporting activity, engagement and growth in the town centre. Together, these efforts have helped establish Paisley as a thriving destination for residents, businesses and visitors.

Maintaining: investing in Paisley’s assets

Regeneration has been supported by significant investment in cultural, civic and community infrastructure. Renfrewshire Council has committed over £100 million to projects including the transformation of Paisley Museum (reopening 2026), refurbishments of Paisley Town Hall and Paisley Arts Centre and the Paisley Learning and Cultural Hub. Education and community life are strengthened through the £85.5 million Paisley Grammar School Community Campus and the West End masterplan, delivering housing and improved public spaces. Transport links, including the £59 million AMIDS South, connect Paisley to AMIDS and Glasgow Airport. These measures maintain heritage, improve accessibility and provide a foundation for a resilient economy.

Managing: activating Paisley through business initiatives

Paisley First BID represents over 600 businesses and plays a central role in animating the town centre. Through year-round events, public realm enhancements and business support, the BID encourages footfall, promotes enterprise and strengthens community connections. Projects such as mural trails, shopfront improvements and sustainability initiatives like the reusable cup scheme enhance the town’s environment while promoting responsible practices. Campaigns supporting local businesses reinforce Paisley’s identity and economic resilience.

Outcomes and future momentum

The combination of investment and active town management has driven Paisley’s resurgence, culminating in recognition as Scotland’s Town of the Year 2025. With the reopening of Paisley Museum and continued collaboration between the council, BID and local businesses, Paisley is well positioned to sustain growth as a culturally vibrant, economically resilient and well-connected town centre. The town’s experience demonstrates how heritage, investment and coordinated business support can deliver lasting regeneration.
