Peterhead Area Community Trust was named Scotland’s Most Enterprising Community in the Scotland Loves Local 2025 awards in recognition of the transformation of Victoria Park. The town faces significant social challenges, including poverty, isolation and high levels of deprivation. Victoria Park, once an underused space, offered an opportunity to address these issues through community-led regeneration.
PACT led a £1 million volunteer-driven redevelopment of the park, using extensive community engagement to shape its design. Through events and social media outreach, local residents were invited to suggest what they wanted to see in the park, and the response was overwhelmingly supportive. The project focused on creating an inclusive, accessible space at the heart of the town, aimed at bringing people together and improving quality of life.
The revitalised park now supports social enterprise activity, improves wellbeing, reduces crime and provides a positive place for people of all ages to gather. The project has become a model for grassroots regeneration, demonstrating the power of volunteer effort, strong community engagement and clear alignment with wider social goals.
It is hoped that the recognition from the Scotland Loves Local Awards will strengthen PACT’s momentum and showcase how local action can deliver lasting community impact.
