Zero Waste Scotland

We exist to lead Scotland to use products and resources more responsibly, focusing on where we can have the greatest effect on reducing climate change together through responsible consumption, responsible production and maximising value through waste.

Using evidence and insight, our goal is to inform policy and motivate individuals and businesses to embrace the environmental, economic, and social benefits of a circular economy.

Zero Waste Scotland have launched a ‘Circular Communities Toolkit’ in partnership with STP, which you can view below:

he Scottish Government consultation on introducing a mandatory charge on single-use disposable beverage cups in Scotland is now live until 14th November.

Consulting on the policy proposal provides an opportunity for organisations, businesses and the general public to give their views on how a charge would operate in Scotland.  The charge would be applied whenever a beverage is sold (with a small number of exceptions), and would apply to all types of single-use disposable beverage cups, regardless of what materials they are made from.

Research conducted by Zero Waste Scotland revealed that more than half of people in Scotland (56%) think more needs to be done to tackle single-use items and are supportive of additional measures such as bans or charges to reduce the amount of single-use cups we use. 74% of people said a charge would encourage them to use a reusable cup more.
